Updated: March 19, 2017

Ernst van Dyk extended his winning streak at his happy hunting ground in the Big Apple on Sunday, charging to a third straight victory at the New York City Half-Marathon.
Van Dyk won the men’s wheelchair race in 47:28, bettering the course record of 47:37 he set at the 21km event last year.
The veteran South African, a multiple Paralympic wheelchair racing and handcycling medallist, added his third half-marathon crown to the titles he won at the prestigious New York Marathon 42km race in 2005 and 2015.
He was expected to launch his usual onslaught on the northern hemisphere’s spring marathon season in April, targeting a record 11th win at the Boston Marathon in Massachusetts and a maiden victory at the London Marathon in England.
