Dominique Scott smashed her own national indoor mile record at the Millrose Games in New York on Saturday night.
The versatile distance runner, who competed in the 10 000m race at last year’s Rio Olympics, took fifth place in the women’s 1.609km race at the annual meeting in the Big Apple.
She crossed the finish line in 4:28.47, clipping more than three seconds off the SA record of 4:31.57 she had set in New York last year.
It was the second national indoor best set by the US-based athlete this season after she ran 8:54.06 over 3 000 in Boston last month.
Elsewhere on Saturday, sprinter Emile Erasmus won the men’s 60m final at the Vienna Indoor Gala in Austria in 6.75 seconds.
Earlier, Erasmus had won his heat in 6.73, covering the short dash 0.04 outside his personal best.
