National record holders Stephen Mokoka and Elroy Gelant will lead a strong Boxer Athletics Club squad over the next two seasons, the professional outfit has confirmed, after releasing the list of its contracted elite athletes for 2017 and 2018.
“The Boxer Athletics Club is dedicated in supporting only SA athletes to achieve their ultimate goals,” the club said in a statement, revealing there would be no foreign athletes in their team for the next couple of years.
Mokoka, the SA record holder over 10km (27:38) and 15km (42:44) on the road, had joined the club after spending most of his elite career with student outfit TUT.
Gelant, the national 5 000m record holder (13:04.88), had extended his contract after winning the SA 10km title in the club’s red and black kit last season.
The men’s team also included the likes of multiple national champion Lucky Mohale and marathon prospect Gladwin Mzazi.
The women’s squad would be spearheaded by twin sisters Lebo and Lebogang Phalula, along with former Olympic marathon runner Tanith Maxwell, who would compete in her second season as a veteran this year.
