Zarck Visser took another step forward in his comeback from injury on Saturday night, winning the men’s long jump at the Night of Athletics meeting in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium.
The Commonwealth Games silver medallist, who was omitted from the national Olympic team this week after struggling to find top form, delivered a 7.90m effort in the third round, adding nine centimetres to the season’s best he set in Lokeren two weeks earlier.
Visser remained well off his best, however, after setting a career record of 8.41m last season.
Luis Rivera of Mexico, the 2013 World Championships bronze medallist, took second place with a 7.73m leap.
