A lucrative cash incentive is on offer this evening for any athlete who breaks a national record at Coetzenburg Stadium, Varsity Athletics organisers have announced.
“Any athlete or relay team that breaks a South African senior record at the final Varsity Athletics meeting of 2016… in Stellenbosch on 7 April, will receive a reward to the amount of R50 000,” Varsity Sports revealed in a statement.
The second and final leg of the series, which had previously been postponed due to student protests, will be broadcast live from 5.20pm on SuperSport 5 and SuperSport 10.
The University of Pretoria lead the standings after winning the opening leg, hosted by the University of Johannesburg last month, but some of the nation’s leading tertiary institutions are hot on their heels and they will battle it out for top honours in the annual student campaign.
Tickets to the meeting are available via the Varsity Sports App in the Google Play and App Store. With every ticket purchased through the App, supporters will receive a free Wimpy coffee at the stadium.
