Antonio Alkana has been removed from the start lists for the men’s 60m hurdles semifinals at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon.
While Alkana had initially been pencilled in as a qualifier, after clocking 7.76 seconds on his indoor debut in the heats, he recorded the same time as Brazilian Fabio dos Santos.
With one too many men progressing to the penultimate round, officials split them by comparing their times to 1000th of a second.
The SA outdoor champion missed out by the narrowest of margins and Dos Santos was given the last available spot in the semis.
Ruswahl Samaai will be the last SA representative at the biennial showpiece when he turns out in the men’s long jump final at 10.05pm (SA time) on Sunday evening.
