Sprinters Carina Horn and Henricho Bruintjies set career records in the 60m dash on Saturday night, with both athletes progressing to their respective finals at the opening leg of the IAAF World Indoor Tour In Karlsruhe, Germany.
Horn took seventh place in the women’s event in 7.20 seconds, equalling her personal best set in Berlin last season.
World outdoor 200m champion Dafne Schippers of the Netherlands secured victory in 7.08.
Earlier, in the heats, Horn had clocked 7.22 to book her place in the final.
The only other SA athlete competing at the meeting, Bruintjies took eighth position in the men’s short sprint in a personal best of 6.64. He clipped 0.01 off his previous career record set in Dusseldorf three days earlier on his indoor debut.
The Karlsruhe race was won by American Mike Rodgers, a former World Indoor Championships silver medallist, in 6.52.
Bruintjies had finished fifth in his first-round heat in 6.70, snatching the last available spot in the final.
