Lebogang Shange has shown impressive form in the early stages of the season

Race walker Lebogang Shange made his intentions clear at the weekend, setting a new 10 000m personal best in his first competitive outing of the 2016 campaign.
Shange clocked 41:02.92 over 25 laps on the track at a meeting in Canberra, Australia, chopping more than two minutes off his career best set in Pretoria nearly four years ago.
His time was 30 seconds outside the 21-year-old SA record held by his coach, Chris Britz.
Shange had a breakthrough 2015 season, setting new national marks over 3 000m (11:20.39), 5 000m (18:56.84) and 20 000m (1:23:20.86) on the track.
At the IAAF World Championships in Beijing in August, he bettered his own SA 20km record on the road, finishing 11th in 1:21:43 to qualify for this year’s Rio Olympics.
