One-lap hurdles specialist Wenda Nel cruised to victory on Friday night, as she started to build early momentum for the Olympic season.
Nel won the women’s 600m race at the second leg of the Eagles Club Classic Shootout series in Pretoria, crossing the line in 1:30.15.
She finished nearly two seconds ahead of invited sub-youth boy Decland Wright, who clocked 1:32.06, with 800m specialist Anuscha Nice taking third place in 1:32.32.
In the men’s 600m event, the only other elite race at the meeting, Ranti Dikgale held off a charge from fellow one-lap sprinter Willie de Beer.
Dikgale won in 1:17.37 with De Beer, a former World Championships relay medallist, grabbing second spot in 1:17.52.
Pieter Conradie ended third in 1:18.13.
The third and final leg of the Classic Shootout series will be held in Johannesburg on February 19.
