Twin sisters Lebo and Lebogang Phalula dominated the Totalsports Women’s Race 10km events over the long weekend, winning the Johannesburg and Stellenbosch legs of the annual series.
Continuing her impressive form, Lebogang Phalula charged to victory in Newtown on National Women’s Day on Sunday, crossing the line more than three minutes clear of her nearest competitor in an impressive high-altitude time of 33:22.
Tebogo Masehla took second place in 36:34 and Chery-Lee Schoeman finished third in 36:50.
The following day, in cold conditions, Lebogang ended second in 33:36 in Stellenbosch, with sibling Lebo breaking away to bag the win in 33:36.
Nolene Conrad took third position in 33:55.
“I couldn’t start as fast as I wanted to, so I decided to just go for the win,” Lebo said.
“The route was flat and fast. It was clearly measured by a runner.
“I am grateful to be part of such a major event that celebrates women.”
