Race walker Lebogang Shange broke his fourth SA record of the season with another superb performance at the European Permit meeting in Cork, Ireland on Tuesday evening.
The 24-year-old High Performance Centre athlete won the 5 000m race in 18:56.84, holding off Spaniard Alberto Amezcua by less than two seconds.
In the process he improved his own personal best by nearly a minute, and shattered the previous national mark of 19:29.94 previously held by his coach Chris Britz, which was set in Pietersburg more than 18 years ago.
Shange now holds the SA records over 3 000m (11:20.39), 5 000m (18:56.84) and 20 000m (1:23:20) on the track, as well as the 20km mark (1:21:50) on the road.
