SA TEAM NAMED FOR AFRICAN GAMES

Updated: July 29, 2015

A 58-member athletics team has been announced by the SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) for the African Games in Brazzaville in September.
The national squad also includes 13 para-athletes who will compete at the continental multi-sport showpiece.
“Team South Africa are expected to perform well in Brazzaville and, as has been the case, are encouraged to cement their position as one of the sporting powerhouses on the continent,” the team’s chef de mission, Ezera Tshabangu, said on Wednesday.
The national track and field squad contributed 13 of the nation’s 156 medals at the 2011 edition of the spectacle in Maputo, previously known as the All Africa Games, where South Africa finished top of the table.
The full SA team for this year’s event consists of 184 athletes in 14 sports codes, with the football squads still to be announced.
