Twin sisters Lebo and Lebogang Phalula dominated the women’s race

Lucky Mohale stunned a world-class men’s field and Lebo Phalula held off a strong charge from three other women to lift the national 21km titles at the Jumbo ASA Half-Marathon Championships in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
With the wind dying down in the morning, Mohale stormed to victory in 1:02:06.
He outsprinted Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) teammate Mobengeni Nxazozo by one second to regain the 21km crown he won in 2010.
Local Eastern Cape favourite Lusapho April was third in 1:02:14, with the top eight men all dipping under 63 minutes in the race for positions in the national team for next year’s World Half-Marathon Championships in Cardiff.
Phalula, meanwhile, clocked 1:11:54 to win the women’s race 24 seconds ahead of twin sister Lebogang, as the siblings continued to build on their impressive form over the last two seasons.
Former SA marathon champion Cornelia Joubert grabbed third place in 1:12:37, securing a CGA podium sweep, with Nolene Conrad crossing the line 15 seconds further back as the top four women all smashed their personal bests.
