Gauteng North athlete Nokuthula Mokoana was left fuming on Monday after she was “disqualified” from the SA 10km Championships in Pretoria.
According to the official results, 21-year-old Mokoana had completed the race, held on February 28, in a time of 37:14.
She was later “disqualified” and her name was removed from the results after Athletics SA discovered another athlete had run in her number.

“I did not participate in the 10km SA champs due to injury,” Mokoana said.
“I was not even at the event, and to my surprise I saw my name appear on the results, meaning someone else ran under my name.
“I reported this to my coach and Athletics Gauteng North.”

Mokoana said she did not know who the other athlete was or how they had received her race number.
“I am a victim in this,” she said.
“My name is dragged through the mud while whoever ran with my number is going free.”
With Mokoana’s name removed from the results, 10th placed Gauteng North teammate Marelise Retief, who clocked 37:16, was bumped up to ninth position.
Kataza Siphalana, also representing the host province, was officially given 10th place in a time of 37:38.
