Capitalising on the popularity of their annual trail races held in April, organisers of the Two Oceans Marathon have unveiled a new ultra-distance off-road event.
The new 45km trail race would be held in Cape Town on May 24, it was confirmed on Wednesday.
“We have been looking for opportunities to extend our trail run offering for a while, especially considering the popularity of the Old Mutual Two Oceans trail runs that take place on Good Friday, and the limited number of runners we can take through the Table Mountain National Park on the day,” said Two Oceans Marathon general manager Carol Vosloo.
“It is therefore thrilling to be able to give our runners another day of quality time on our beautiful mountain trails.”
The 45km event would start and finish at the Lion’s Den at the Old Zoo by Rhodes Memorial, and would also include a 22km trail race.
Organisers said entries would open on March 5.
