A double Commonwealth Games and World Student Games champion, Sunette Viljoen was rewarded for her consistency when she stepped on the podium to collect her bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Viljoen, who has cemented her place as one of the best javelin throwers in the world, has improved her career best every season since 2008. One of the favourites for a medal at the 2012 London Olympics, she finished fourth in the final, missing out on the bronze medal by just 38 centimetres. A versatile sports star, before she made the transition to athletics, Viljoen played one Test match and 17 ODIs for the SA women’s cricket team between 2000 and 2002.
